Homowo is a yearly festival of the Ga-Danme-Obutu people of Ghana, West Africa. This yearly event is highlighted by a Ghanaian First Fruits African Educational Festival designed to advertise the produce, talents, and businesses  of the community while educating and giving thanks, amidst lots of fun!

    This  year’s  theme is:  
    "UNITING  AS  ONE"
  • Presenting aspects of African life, a Mock African Wedding;

  • Drummers, Steppers, Poetic, & Sweet Potato Pie Competitions!

  • Cultural Performances by Makare African Dance Family, Hedjole,
    Ilea Ire Yoruba Folkloric Ensemble,& others; Drum & Dance Workshops, 

  • Special guests: African King & Queen; Stilt-walker

North on Waldo Road, left onto 53rd Avenue, quick right onto county road 225 (pass Gainesville Race Way), left onto 156th Ave. Go around the “S” curve, right onto 21st Street. Go two miles, 19024 NE 21st Street is on left. Look for the flags. .
Festivities
Thobos Lubamba We are inviting the entire Gainesville community and surrounding area (near and far) to join in the fun as the Community showcases its gifts and talents with it's many performances. Join us for Storytelling, Dance and Drum workshops, experience the exictement of stilt-Walk Dancer of Zaire, local and guest dance, a live Saturday Night Drum performance (Kormiam-Bii Cultural Troupe, Ghana, Duaffe Dancers, Soukous and Hedzole Ghanaian Dance Ensemble of Gainesville). Homowo is an agrarian festival, therefore, fresh vegetables, chicken, goats on the hoof or off will be available at low cost. Other Market Vendors with authentic African clothing, arts and crafts, paintings, Shea Butter, Black Soap, etc. will be available. Get your portrait drawn. Mouthwatering African dishes from Nigeria, Caribbean, Ghana. Be sure to come shake off a few pounds as you participate in the various dance workshops (Nigerian, Congolese, Ghanaian, and Liberian). Do not miss the Rappers and storytellers. The Praise Dancers are sure to lift your spirit to dizzy heights. Competitions include:
  • Step-Dance Competition
  • Drummers Competition
  • Sweet Potato Pie Competition
(the winners in each category take all).

6pm MOCK AFRICAN WEDDING

*Teacher responsible for collecting any charges; dress appropriately. Throughout the festival, community businesses, individuals (Politicians, Pastors, Special Interest Groups, Special Programs, etc) are welcome to advertise on stage or setup a booth. (REGISTER HERE)

Vendor Booths are available ($50.00) Donations accepted, 25.00 and 35.00 (larger donations are accepted; investors or sponsors please register ).
